As a possible condition of starting local manufacturing in India, Apple considers to import and sell refurbished iPhones in the country. According to a Bloomberg source, the idea is included in Apple’s wish list of concessions.

As a possible condition of starting local manufacturing in India, Apple considers to import and sell refurbished iPhones in the country. According to a Bloomberg source, the idea is included in Apple’s wish list of concessions.

Apple’s last attempt to win permission to import refurbished phones was turned down in May. Government officials and other businesses were concerned that the import of used phones would flood the market with cheap goods and undermine the governments ‘Make in India’ program.

The advantage for Apple of importing and selling refurbished iPhones in India would be to advance beyond its small market share in the region. This low market share is caused by the high price of iPhones, which are out of range of the average Indian consumer.
