After more than a year and a half of saying 'no comment' Apple has finally owned up about using Bangka tin in its products.

In November 2012 Friends of the Earth revealed that tin mining on Bangka Island in Indonesia is destroying tropical forests, coral reefs and livelihoods. Thousands joined in the call for phone companies to come clean about where their tin comes from. Apple was first off the blocks in its enthusiasm to fund and participate in an industry-led group looking at what could be done to help locally, but refused – until now – to do what most of the other top brands wasted no time in doing: be honest with its customers that Bangka tin could be found in iPhones and iPads.

Now, after more than a year and a half of saying 'no comment' Apple has finally owned up about using Bangka tin in its products on page 16 of its Supplier Responsibility Report.
