In the Philippines, January 2015 has been declared a Zero Waste Month for the entire country by President Benigno Aquino through Proclamation 760. In celebration, and to continue moving the fight forward, the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA), EcoWaste Coalition, Mother Earth Foundation, and Health Care Without Harm helped organizing the first ever Philippines Zero Waste Fair.

The Zero Waste (ZW) fair was the first ever exhibition on waste, workshop on and trading of discards, and exchange of ideas and practices on waste in ways and forms that are accessible to everyone. The idea was to multiply the pursuers of zero waste, and grow the benefits exponentially.

People could walk around exhibits; listen, discuss with others; participate in checking out propositions; even repair or repurpose their discards right on the fair site; and engage and trade online and carry it forward during the fair.

People were encouraged to bring their household items that they want repaired instead of throwing these away (e.g., electric fans, TV, radio, stove, computer, lamps/lights, washing machines, sewing machines).
