On May 16 and 17, workers and activists in different European cities participated in the “Let’s Tackle Apple Action”. The action aimed to support Apple workers all over the world and to raise attention for the global chain of exploitation. The action took multiple forms - authorized manifestations, spontaneous go-ins, and unexpected blockades of Apple stores - and took place in Frankfurt, Rome, Bologna, Warsaw, Poznan and Dusseldorf.

Apple outsources its production to manufacturers and refuses to take full accountability to ensure a fair and safe working environment in its supply chain. Its iPhones and iPads are produced by contract manufacturers such as Foxconn that operate at low wages in world market factories in China and elsewhere. In the Let’s Tackle Action, the structures of exploitation are addressed. It’s also meant to raise awareness to forms of resistance by the workers, for example strikes and riots that have received little attention so far. There have also been a number of suicides among factory workers.

The concrete, transnational solidarity action is part of the “May of Solidarity” mobilization, organized by movements, organizations, groups and parties of the left and radical left all over Europe.
