The GoodElectronics Network is pleased to announce that 8 network members will receive a total of EUR 28.000 during the next year to improve policies and practices in the global electronics supply chain regarding human rights and the environment. The selected members will implement different projects across 6 different countries, ranging from research to capacity building activities.

The sub-grants have been awarded in the context of a 5-year programme co-funded by the European Commission. GoodElectronics launched a ‘Call for proposals’ on  September 1 which yielded 24 very interesting proposals. After extensive deliberations based on different criteria, 8 members (both organisations and individuals) were selected to carry out their project.

The approved projects take place in Mexico, the Philippines, the UK, the West Bank & Israel, Thailand, and the Netherlands. Topics include occupational health & safety, student labour, freedom of association, e-waste and responsible public procurement. Target groups and beneficiaries are workers in the electronics supply chain, as well as institutional consumers of electronic products, brand name companies, and the wider audience.

Throughout 2016, updates on the activities and outcomes will be published on the GoodElectronics website.

About the GoodElectronics sub-granting scheme

To promote sustainability and labour rights in the global electronics industry, GoodElectronics makes modest grants available to its network members, especially in production countries, through a ‘sub-granting scheme’. The scheme is open to all network members, including individuals, organisations and unions. Based on different criteria, such as feasibility and cost-effectiveness, a selection panel made up of GoodElectronics Steering Committee members decides on the allocation of the funds. This year marked the second edition of the sub-granting scheme. The third edition will be launched in the fall of 2016.
