Lee Jae-yong has joined the board of directors of Samsung Electronics. Getting to the bottom of the Galaxy Note 7 failure will likely be one of his first responsibilities.

Samsung Electronics’ shareholders have approved the appointment of Lee Jae-yong, the son of Lee Kun-hee, as a member of the company’s board of directors. “He will provide the leadership to take Samsung Electronics to the next level of success, helping the company focus on timely investments, reorganizing businesses to enhance core capabilities and creating a more open corporate culture,” the company said in a statement.

According to the Korea Times, one of Lee’s first tasks will have to be the restoration of Samsung’s reputation after the introduction of its new phone, the Galaxy Note 7, became a fiasco. One of the company’s co-CEOs, Shin Jong-kyun, promised that the cause of the Note 7 defect is being investigated thoroughly. “We will reveal the cause and share the results [of this investigation].” More information about the current state of Samsung’s mobile division is available from the Korea Times.
