Taiwanese Wintek workers form workplace union

24 July 2009

On 13 July, the founding ceremony of the Wintek Youshi Union or ‘Wintek Youth Union’ took place. The Wintek Youshi Union is a workplace union of workers at Wintek’s Youshi plant in Taiwan. The Youshi plant is one of many manufacturing facilities owned by Wintek in Taiwan. The Wintek Youshi workers as well as workers of other Wintek plants and of other companies unfortunately have a lot to worry about: dismissals and wage deductions are of the order of the day. The Youshi plant is one of several facilities where workers get unionised. The National Federation of Independent Unions in Taiwan (Nafitu), an umbrella organisation of workplace unions, is dedicated to the mobilisation and unionisation processes at the Wintek Youshi plant.

The Wintek Youth Union has expressed its deep concern about the situation of Wintek workers in mainland China, in particular the Masstop workers in Dongguan who are struggling to have their rights respected.
