A new investigative report from the New York Times reveals the wide range of incentives that the local government of Zhengzhou, China, has provided to attract Foxconn.

Zhengzhou’s government has helped finance the construction of the manufacturing complex, built housing for hundreds of thousands of workers, provides Foxconn with a discount on energy use, and is significantly lowering the corporate taxes and value added taxes that Foxconn needs to pay. Furthermore, the government is involved in the recruitment of workers, paying subsidies to recruitment agencies for each new person they hire.
