Malaysian electronics manufacturer Renesas Semiconductor criticised for union busting

87 civil society organisations, trade unions and groups are calling on Malaysian electronics manufacturer Renesas Semiconductor to respect the freedom of association and the right to effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining. Renesas must immediately accord recognition to the Electronic Industry Employees Union Western Region (EIEUWR), and reinstate Wan Noorulazhar bin Mohd Hanafiah and all other worker leaders terminated.

The information presented under the heading 'Electrolux responds to false accusations regarding workers in Thailand', fails, however, to fully address the concerns raised by GoodElectronics.

The labour conflict at the Rayong plant of Electrolux in Thailand has not yet been resolved, despite intervention by Swedish union IF Metall. Letters by the GoodElectronics Network and GoodElectronics Thailand (GET) to the Swedish company have gone unanswered. Electrolux is not keeping its promises with regard to the reinstatement of dismissed workers and is putting off conciliation with the concerned union leaders and union members. A process of collective bargaining in good faith is still far off.
