The Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families coalition has released a new report card about US retailers’ safer chemicals programs this week. The coalition investigated to what extent companies like Amazon, Costco, Target and Walmart are making progress to reduce the use of toxic chemicals in their products. As it turned out, there are significant differences in the efforts made by these retailers.

Walmart is the retailer with the highest score, as it has shown commitment to transparency, responsibility and credible standards for safer products. The company has made policies and implementation guides for all suppliers and is pushing for full disclosure of all ingredients in products.

Amazon, on the other hand, received the lowest score on this ranking. The retailer does not have a public safer chemicals policy, and has made very little progress in disclosing product ingredients or reducing the use of toxic chemicals in their products.
