The global mining sector, particularly in mineral mining, is pivotal amidst the push for sustainable energy. Essential minerals like copper, lithium, and nickel are crucial for achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, necessitating substantial mining investments worldwide. Indonesia, a major nickel producer, plays a key role in supplying the growing demand for EV batteries. However, this boom poses challenges such as environmental degradation, health risks to workers, and economic volatility in local communities. These striking questions set the tone of this case study prepared by INKRISPENA – Research Centre for Crisis and Alternative Development Strategy. https://www.solidar.org/publications-page/case-study-critical-minerals-critical-conditions-the-struggle-of-nickel-mine-workers-in-indonesia/
