As the Chinese economy slows, many China-based firms are looking to start production in India. Huawei, the world’s third largest maker of smartphones, is the latest example.
India is the world’s fastest growing smartphone market and an attractive country for phone makers. Due to a lack of good suppliers and infrastructure, however, domestic phone production has been limited. India’s phone companies have mostly been importing their phones from other countries like China and Taiwan. As the Chinese economy is slowing down, there are some indicators that India has the opportunity to catch up and become a more important player in the phone industry.
Huawei is one of the China-based firms that are starting production in India. The devices made by Huawei in Chennai, India are likely to hit the Indian market as early as October. Read more about Huawei’s plans here.
