The GoodElectronics Network asks the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) Global Dialogue Forum (Geneva, 9-11 December 2014) about “The Adaptability of Companies to Deal with Fluctuating Demands and the Incidence of Temporary and Other Forms of Employment in Electronics,” to consider the following statement: the use of temporary and other forms of precarious employment in the electronics sector cannot be justified as a response to fluctuating demands from brands. Employees need to be treated as partners in business – and not merely as commodities.

Employees are human beings, people who have families and dependents and who need economic security and stability. Employment relationships should not be framed only around business and the fluctuation of demand from brands. Employees need to be treated as partners in business – and not merely as commodities.
