A new report by Verisk Maplecroft predicts that slavery and labour abuses in Southeast Asia will increase dramatically due to job losses caused by robot manufacturing.
The displaced workers, mostly lacking skills to adapt and without access to social security, will have to get a new job in a field where there are a lot of competitors. This will lead to a very exploitative environment. The following sectors are identified as high risk: agriculture, forestry and fishing, manufacturing, construction, retail and hospitality.
Governments should start to take measures now to prevent that automation threats millions of livelihoods.
