Samsung Group chief Lee Jae-yong was indicted with bribery and embezzlement by South Korean prosecutors. On February 17th, Lee was arrested over his alleged role in the corruption scandal involving impeached President Park Guen-hye.
Lee Jae-yong, together with four other Samsung executives, will almost certainly face trial. The charges include pledging bribes to a company and organizations tied to Park’s confidant, Choi Soon-sil, in exchange for government favors. In addition, Lee is accused of embezzlement, hiding assets overseas and committing perjury before parliament.
According to Reuters, Park, Choi and Lee deny all wrongdoing. If convicted, Lee could face up to 20 years in prison based on the main charges.
