Training course on OHS in Vietnam

Last June, Asia Monitor Resource Center (AMRC) and the Center for Development and Integration (CDI) held a two-day training course on occupational health and safety (OHS) in the electronics industry in Bac Ninh, Vietnam. In 2014, there were 73 labour accidents in the province, which resulted in 2 deaths and 71 injured. The course was made possible with a sub-grant from the GoodElectronics Network. GoodElectronics is funded by the European Commission.

Bac Ninh is one of the key economic zones of Vietnam. Among the many companies operating in Bac Ninh, the majority of the workers is employed by electronics companies. One of the reasons for this course is that both employers and employees do not understand the necessity of OSH in the production process. The training course on OHS in the electronics industry was organized to provide basic knowledge on OHS and hazards for workers.

At the end of the course, the following recommendations to CDI and AMRC for follow-up actions were made:

  • Provide more information and training manuals on OSH for further training course in the companies.
  • Continue support and provide advice to specific companies/factories to better ensure the OSH.
  • Provide more training courses for workers in Electronics industry and other industries.
  • Send training materials and related information (web link, applications, software, etc.) to participants after the training.
