Sustainable energy solutions like electric cars and solar power can possibly be revolutionized by better batteries.

According to researchers, this discovery is a major breakthrough. It would drastically reduce the charging time of smartphones and could accelerate adoption of electric cars and solar energy. The key to this is the discovery of a new group of materials: the niobium tungsten oxides.

A limiting factor in the development of batteries that charge super fast is the speed in which the positive charges particles move to a negatively charged electrode. This is solvable by making the battery smaller (using nano particles), but these are expensive and tricky to make. The new discovered materials can make this movement extremely fast.
