In a March 2020 opinion piece in the Financial Times, Francis R Fannon, the assistant secretary to the US Bureau of Energy Resources, announced the creation of the Energy Resource Governance Initiative (ERGI).
The ERGI, a collaboration by the governments of Australia, Botswana, Canada, Peru, and the US, aims to address contradictions and conflicts between green energy goals and practices and the realities of the mining industry.
To address these issues, the ERGI created a tool-kit to help governments, companies, and consumers foster the development of green energy supplies while stewarding best practices for environmental sustainability, social accountability, and economic honesty in the mining industry.
