BBC reports that Foxconn has recently replaced 60,000 factory workers with robots. A government official announced that the amount of employees in one of the factories has been reduced from 110,000 to 50,000 thanks to the introduction of robots.
Foxconn Technology group confirmed that many manufacturing tasks are being automated, but denied that this is causing long-term job losses. According to Foxconn, the automation will allow employees to focus on higher value-added steps in the production process, for which they will receive training.
