Nearly 1,000 Google employees have signed an open letter to company leadership demanding the termination of contracts with U.S. Department of Homeland Security agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection alleging the company’s technology is being used to enable “state violence and repression.”

The letter, organized by a group of Google workers affiliated with No Tech for Apartheid cites recent deaths in ICE custody and paramilitary-style raids as motivation, and calls for an emergency town hall, transparency regarding government contracts, and specific safety measures for all workers.
