In August 2016 the European Commission ruled that Apple has to pay 13 billion of taxes to the government of Ireland. Ireland now is forced to collect this money the don’t want.

The EC has said these tax benefits were illegal because they allowed Apple to pay substantially less tax than other businesses. After some tension with Brussel, the Irish government and Apple have now reached an agreement to start collecting the €13bn ($15bn).

Ireland is afraid they are not that attactive anymore for firms.
