In this SACOM film a young female former Foxconn worker is interviewed about her work, treatment and working conditions at the mold production shop floor. She started there as a trainee, earning 1 Chinese Yuan a day, but in fact had to do the same work as other employees. Her story is one of many more about the treatment of workers in the electronics industry.
She tells how she was exposed to chemicals and dust at the work place, that there was not enough or proper protective clothing and materials and how she was treated when she asked for these materials or any clarification. She also tells how it was not supported to report work-injuries. Instead of receiving treatment or compensation, employees had to apologize to the department.
According to SACOM the worker's testimony adds to the growing number of stories we hear, of young migrant workers being exploited. SACOM asks us to reflect: do we really understand the thousands of human faces behind the successful images and huge profits of those IT brands, including Apple?
