Poor working conditions and human rights violations are all too common in the electronics industry. Low wages, excessive working hours, forced overtime, insufficient rest and time off are just some of the problems workers face. Electronics workers are often exposed to toxic substances and their work is highly paced and repetitive. Work stations are rarely ergonomic, putting workers are at risk of injury and stress. Workers who become pregnant or contract an occupational illness are frequently laid off. Those seeking to exercise their union and collective bargaining rights risk dismissal and other forms of reprisal.
The GoodElectronics network calls on the electronics sector to ensure decent working conditions throughout the industry. We conduct research and inform workers, trade unions and policymakers about working conditions in the electronics sector. We push for protection of workers’ rights, including the right to a living wage, health, safety and work-life balance.
