Bloomberg reporter Shai Oster got access to a large Pegatron factory near Shanghai, where around 50,000 people assemble Apple iPhones.

The fact a reporter was allowed inside could be a good sign, according to academic Jenny Chan, who is quoted in the article:

“The fact they let a reporter in shows that they are responding to external pressure and trying to be more transparent—at least on the surface they’re trying to fix something. But they’re still not telling us more about how they run the business, the whole labor system.”

A report by China Labor Watch published last October was highly critical of working conditions at the factory.
