The electronics industry, including Apple, has a history of resisting unions, influenced by the opposition of major US companies. However, unions scored an important victory when a US labor board judge ruled against Apple, ordering them to cease coercive interrogations, confiscation of pro-union material, and interference with employees’ rights. Despite Apple’s public support for international freedom of association principles in their codes of conduct, their anti-union practices contradict these ethical commitments. To date, only two out of 270 US-based Apple stores have managed to unionize.
