Mid-December, Jim Puckett, Executive Director of BAN and Lai Yun, Founder and Executive Director of the Society of Canton Nature Conservation, witnessed the recycling streets of Guiyu as a ghost-town. All operations were shuttered and only a few abandoned piles of e-waste left behind in some yards and waysides. A town in southern China that's known as one of the world's most notorious destinations for e-scrap is undergoing a government-mandated makeover.
