PREMICONGO released a report documenting human rights violations and environmental issues related to mining in the DRC.

The report focuses on the China Non-ferrous Metal Mining Corporation Huachin, detailing its operations in the exploitation of copper and cobalt in Mabende, Haut Katanga (in the DRC). This documents how local communities and workers have experienced various human rights and labour rights abuses, as well widespread deforestation and pollution of water sources.

The report serves as the basis for a complaint filed by PREMICONGO, on behalf of the local community of Mabende, with the China Chamber of Commerce of Metals Minerals & Chemicals Importers & Exporters (CCCMC).

SOMO provided some financial support to PREMICOGO for field and desk research, consultations with the local community as well as for translation and publication of the report.
