Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn has seen a wave of suicides among employees of its Longhua plants over the past months. GoodElectronics and makeITfair have published a public statement severly criticising this situation and calling upon Foxconn and its buyers to investigate and address the root causes of the suicides. GoodElectronics and makeITfair are asking networks, organisations and individuals the world over to endorse the statement. Chinese and Taiwanese civil society organisations have called an international day ofaction and solidarity with Foxconn victims and workers - next week Tuesday June 8th.
Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn has seen a wave of suicides among employees of its Longhua plants over the past months. Reportedly, 12 employees have attempted to kill themselves. GoodElectronics and makeITfair have published a public statement severely criticising this situation and calling upon Foxconn and its buyers to investigate and address the root causes of the suicides. GoodElectronics and makeITfair emphasize that respect for enabling rights as freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining should be at the core of the solution.

Chinese and Taiwanese civil society organisations have called an international day of action and solidarity with the Foxconn victims, their families and the Foxconn workers - next week Tuesday June 8th. This date the Hon Hai/Foxconn annual general meeting will be held in Taiwan. Protest actions are scheduled in Taiwan. Also, on or around June 8th, Apple will launch its 4th generation iPhone. Apple is one of Foxconn's major customers and the Apple iPhone is produced at the Foxconn Longhua plant.
